The course includes instruction in basic life support skills (including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED), recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest, recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia, airway management, related pharmacology, management of ACS and stroke, and effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team.

This course is approved by the American Heart Association. Successful graduates receive an AHA ACLS card that is good for two years from the course date. Providers will enhance their skills in treating adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

The 16-hour course is taught over the course of two 8-hour days. These hours can be applied as Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) for EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics in Utah.
